A project that I have been working on for at least two years is finally being picked up again. Over the last couple years I have worked on it here and there. However, I'm tired of seeing it sit unfinished so I have made it a goal to have it completed by the end of the year! This project comes from Jack Dempsey Needle Art (www.jdneedleart.com). I picked it up from a quilt shop in our neighboring Amish community. It is 36in x 36in in size and is made to hang on a wall.
This embroidery project uses three basic stitches: stem stitch, French knots, and cross stitch. I searched Google for diagrams on the easiest way to achieve these stitches. However, if you learn best through videos, like me, then go to YouTube and search for videos on how to do these stitches. I have found them very helpful if I ever forget how to do a stitch, which is fairly often.
As of right now I am working on the outlines of the mason jars which is taking some time and is a very tedious process. Although the rhythm of the process allows me to zone out for a minute and forget any worries that I have. In that way, embroidery is therapeutic for me. One thing I like to do is pop in headphones and listen to relaxing music or any of my podcasts that I follow. One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is true crime and the one I have been hooked on recently is NBC Dateline. I find their voices relaxing and don't focus too much on the information their sharing it's just another method on how I get my mind to relax.
Well, now that we are back on track from my podcast/therapy tangent we can get back to the project at hand!
The outlines of the mason jars are the stem stitch in the color 597. Since I didn't get the branded embroidery floss that goes with this project I picked a color from my stash that I felt was close enough to the color and went with that.
As you can see in the picture below the project fabric came pre-printed for ease of use and it may be hard to tell what is stitched so far and what is not as the floss and the print on the cloth are relatively similar. But I promise you I've made progress having completed 4.5 out of the 8 mason jar outlines! My plan is once I have the outlines done I will go back in and finish out the inside details of the mason jars which will add a lot more color and definition to this project. I haven't decided yet what color of fabric I will use for the quilting portion or even how I want these to be laid out. I have thought about cutting the mason jars into individual squares so I can arrange them how I please when it comes to quilting. I guess y'all will have to wait around and see what happens!
I'm so excited to be getting back to this project and seeing progress made on it again, finally!
Well, guess I better get at it if I'm going to finish by the end of the year!
Thank you guys for supporting my blog and interests.
Until next time...
